Dartmouth Regatta Roundup 2009

The 2009 Dartmouth Regatta sailing events attracted 313 craft within 18 classes for a total of over 122 races over the week. The 4 days of racing were reduced to 3 when racing was called off on Friday due to strong winds.

Fortunately conditions on Saturday were ideal with a strong breeze and brilliant sunshine but by Sunday the weather had deteriorated and constant drizzle coupled with an 18 knot wind meant poor visibility.

News from the Dart Lifeboat - RNLI

The Dart ILB crews carried out intensive training in Start Bay with RAF Sea King helicopter 619 from Chivenor prior to the Dartmouth Regatta. A demonstration of the transfer techniques was in the Regatta programme to take place opposite the Boat Float on Regatta Saturday. Helicopter transfers form a vital area of training for all lifeboat crews.

The Rotary Club of Dartmouth was formed in 1950 and its members will, next year, celebrate their Diamond Jubilee. Young, perhaps, in relation to those clubs formed in the first flush of excitement of Rotary after the Great War of 1914-1918.

Dittisham Regatta - Saturday 15th August

Another year rolls around and its Regatta time again! Dittisham will be celebrating in the usual style on Saturday 15th August and fingers crossed the sun will shine. As in previous years there will be the rowing and sailing races with the Whaler race between the local hostelries and café being a needle event.
