Dartmouth Caring - Naked Calendar 2010 |
THE ‘nude’ – or rather well hidden naked person - calendar has become something of a ubiquitous tool of the charity sector since the first one appeared ten years ago – but now Dartmouth Caring is putting a new spin on the concept for its 2010 version.
THE ‘nude’ – or rather well hidden naked person - calendar has become something of a ubiquitous tool of the charity sector since the first one appeared ten years ago – but now Dartmouth Caring is putting a new spin on the concept for its 2010 version.
The calendar is the brainchild of Anthony Waring, the Dartmouth based photographer and hairdresser, who in 2002 put together a nude calendar for Nigel Way of the Royal Castle Hotel. The project raised thousands for Children in Need. Anthony, a keen supporter of Dartmouth Caring, which supports the vulnerable and elderly in the Dartmouth community, thought it could be good to resurrect the idea, but wanted to re-invigorate it.
‘The nude calendars you see everywhere else are all a variation on a theme,’ he said. ‘Here we really wanted to celebrate the individual personality of each model. We have chosen people from all walks of life in Dartmouth, the only connection is that they are all over 50, and all lead a thoroughly active life.
We have made sure all the photographs are as different from each other as the people in them.’ The calendar is designed to celebrate the more mature person, not only in having pride in their bodies, but also pride in the fact that they are active and very full of life.
Dee Nutt, chairman of Dartmouth Caring, who has developed the idea with Anthony, said she was delighted with the pictures. ‘We have some wonderful images, and they are so different to what you would normally see in these types of calendars,’ she said. ‘We have people who are so interesting and so active, they are a real inspiration.’ Dee has herself become one of the models and all the models come from Dartmouth, and all have an interesting story to tell. The Calendar will be officially launched on the 21st July on the Cardiff Castle boat.
