    The Dartmouth and Kingswear Hospital is situated in Dartmouth on the South Embankment overlooking the River Dart. Philosophy on Behalf of Dartmouth Hospital We believe that each person whether patient, carer or member of staff has their own individual needs – physical, psychological or spiritual. Our aim is to meet these needs, working within our resources in a friendly and professional manner.

    How to get to the hospital

    By car from the Higher Ferry – continue along to the other end of the South Embankment.

    By car from the Lower Ferry – continue on the one way system, at the end of Mayor’s Avenue junction turn right along South Embankment.

    N.B. Public transport is limited and parking for visitors in the hospital car park is very limited.

    What to bring

    We encourage patients to get dressed if they wish and recommend comfortable daytime clothing and suitable shoes. You will also need toiletries and any medicines or tablets you are currently taking. Relatives will be expected to take patient’s washing. N.B.

    The hospital does not accept responsibility for valuables brought into the ward. They manage a smile even when making beds! Visiting Hours Visiting hours are from 2.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m. Visiting at other times can be arranged at the discretion of the Nurse-in-Charge. Smoking No smoking in the hospital. Gifts to patients Ask the patient’s nurse regarding suitable gifts if in doubt.

    Newspapers/Magazines The housekeeper will collect newspapers in the morning on request.

    Services we can offer 24 hour Minor Accident and Emergency Day Care - Monday – Friday 9.30 a.m. – 3.30 p.m. Physiotherapy - Outpatients by appointment only

    X-ray - Monday 11.30 a.m. to 1 .30 p.m. by appointment only. Wednesday 11.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. by appointment only.

    Occupational Therapy - available if required Ostomy Care - ring to make an appointment with the Support Nurse Social Worker - can be arranged through Nurse-in-Charge

    The Physiotherapy Department Some of the range of equipment available to help with eating, drinking and meal preparation in the Occupational Therapy Department Occupational Therapists work with people of all ages to help them overcome the effects of disability caused by physical or psychological illness, accident or ageing and enable them to lead full and satisfying lives as independently as possible.

    The League of Friends operate a library/trolley shop and visit the wards on Monday and Friday afternoons. Hairdressing If the patient’s condition allows, an appointment can be made with the Hairdresser, who visits most afternoons Monday to Friday. Telephone Calls A trolley payphone can be brought to patients to make outgoing calls. A cordless instrument may also be brought to patients who receive incoming calls, its number is 01803 839284 Dartmouth Hospital League of Friends Many of the facilities available to patients, for example the telephones and televisions as well as much medical equipment - a recent purchase being a modern X-Ray machine - have been provided by the generosity of local people through the League of Friends of Dartmouth Hospital.

    The Friends Suite

    A bed-sitter with en-suite facilities and a kitchenette has been provided by the League of Friends and is often available for relatives of patients who have travelled long distances and are unable to find conventional accommodation nearby, at short notice. Other Information Mealtimes: Breakfast 8.00 – 8.45 a.m. Lunch 12.30 p.m. Supper 6.00 p.m. Hot drinks are available from the Cafebar vending machines at all times.
