book Shops

For the enthusiastic reader there are plenty of options to get your reading fix in Dartmouth, with smaller outlets on the outskirts of town and the larger mainstream shops within the town centre. The Dartmouth Community Bookshop is a non-profit organisation which sells maps and guides to those looking to get out and explore the surrounding area, as well as a great selection of fictional titles. A more traditional bookshop is the Compass Bookshop, which has books to suit any age or taste. There are of course many other bookshops in the area, each offering their own unique services and literary suggestions.

Dartmouth has a rich history with book shops, its most famous seller being the Harbour Bookshop owned by Christopher Robin Milne. Christopher Robin was the inspiration behind his father's Winnie-the-Pooh stories. Unfortunately the Harbour Bookshop closed in 2011, but other book shops remain open, keeping the reading spirit of Dartmouth alive.
