dartmouth Regatta

Since 1822 there has been a Dartmouth Regatta.  The tradition is resplendent on the last 3 days of August – Thursday, Friday and Saturday.  This is the time when the River Dart shows its life in many boating and yachting ways.

Of course there is sailing and rowing but also a steamboat rally and old classic yachts grace the river and racing.   Today, many of the Dartmouth clubs and societies participate such as running, tennis and a street market. There are fun events for all ages – Barrel rolling, Waiters and waitresses races, International Trolley Race, tug of war and a waterborne tug of war.

Dartmouth is a hive of fun and frolics.  Darts competitions, bands and a rock concert.  Perhaps the crowning event is the display by the RAF Red Arrows, swooping low over the River Dart in breathtaking symmetry.

Just think – book your accommodation – hotels to self catering today and you will have a VIP view of the action.

The Dartmouth Regatta has grown in popularity.  In 1922 there were just 3 races, today there are so many that some start earlier in the week.  Now over 300 yachts take part.
