    New services and support

To support these needs, Macmillan is investing a record £2.5 million in new cancer care services and projects in the county encompassing:
    • Improved psychological and rehabilitation support.
    • Improved 24/7 care for the terminally ill in their homes.
    • Specialist training of staff in residential and nursing homes.
    • Local help in claiming State benefit entitlements in north and mid Devon.
    • A wide range of practical support, initially centred on the Macmillan Mustard Tree Centre in Plymouth.
    • More hospital based Macmillan clinical nurse specialists.

    Existing services and support

Macmillan funding has created the posts of more than 80 cancer care specialists (in hospitals and in the community) and been instrumental in building four cancer support and information centres in Devon:
    • The Mustard Tree Macmillan Centre in Plymouth
    • The Lodge in Torquay
    • The Health Information Centre at North Devon District Hospital in Barnstaple.
    • Macmillan funding has also created the Supportive Care Family Suite for the very seriously ill at North Devon District Hospital.
We generate around £1 million in financial support for local people each year including previously unidentified benefits and direct grants. Also, people living with cancer no longer pay for their prescriptions thanks to Macmillan campaigning.
