  • Mayors Avenue Car Park, Dartmouth

    February 24 2015

The play equipment adjacent to Mayors Avenue car park has reached the end of its safe life and a spokesman for South Hams District Council said it is being removed as part of the new 13 space residents car park and community greenhouse scheme.
The Council has been planning this for a number of years, with heavy investment in two nearby play spaces at Coronation Park and Victoria Road, where exciting new equipment has been installed at a cost of £148,000 (Coronation Park £100,000, Victoria Rd £48, 000). The funding at Victoria Rd included a compensation sum to relocate from South West Water when the adjoining
    sewage works were upgraded.
Visitors and locals had complained of unpleasant smells emanating from the SWW plant, and numbers visiting the play park have dwindled. The Mayors Avenue site was evidently far from ideal as a children’s play space, and the new investment at Victoria
Road and Coronation Park has been a big success. The Council is planning to sign post both of these spaces from Mayors Avenue
    – Coronation Park is five minutes, Victoria Road 10 minutes.
