  • Mitch Tonks’ £125,000 investment in Dartmouth restaurant creates eight jobs

    February 24 2015

BRIXHAM restaurateur Mitch Tonks is who is opening a new restaurant in the town this Spring is investing further in South Devon.

The Rockfish fish and chips restaurant in Dartmouth is currently being expanded and new jobs are being created.

A new floor is being opened upstairs and will create a mezzanine style upper floor. It adds 25 covers upstairs including two tables on an outside balcony overlooking the River Dart.
Mitch, who runs the nearby Seahorse restaurant in Dartmouth, a Rockfish in Torquay and is opening a third South Devon Rockfish at Brixham in April, said: “We always wanted to have the upstairs space and letting in the light really opens the whole place up, making it feel even more like a big stylish beach hut!

We have plans for more outdoor seating at Rockfish in Plymouth and a private dining room there in the summer too, so with Brixham being in action by April there is lots going on.”

The investment in Dartmouth has been another £125,000 and it will create another eight jobs ( including seasonal).

Mitch has used local builders and Mark Ely, a friend of Mitchs and was with him and Mat Prowse when they first opened the Seahorse, is overseeing the project.

The upstairs room will be available to book out for parties or big groups (no booking fee but just a private space).

It comes as Visit Devon has named Rockfish Plymouth as one of THE best fish restaurants in Devon to visit, together with Hanbury’s in Babbacombe and the Blue Seafood at Paignton Harbour.

Mitch Tonks’ Rockfish restaurant has been named a double winner in the UK’s Fish and Chips Awards winning the Community Contribution Award and the Best Multiple Operator Award. With restaurants in Plymouth, Dartmouth and Torquay, and one soon to launch in Brixham, the Rockfish restaurant brand focuses on quality and service and making seafood accessible for all. Rockfish has raised over £10,000 in donations towards the National Marine Aquarium as part of its community efforts and on the third Friday of every month, takeaway fish and chips are just £3 in order to promote the great fish caught locally in South West Waters. Rockfish is the perfect way to enjoy traditional fish and chips by the sea.
