Strete

Village Details:

Strete is the gateway to a wonderfully scenic stretch of coastal footpath which now goes to Stoke Fleming, via the stunning Blackpool Sands in one direction and Strete Gate and Slapton Sands in the other.  There is currently a collaboration with SHDC, DCC, Natural England, CLAG, AONB, Coastal Footpath Association, the Ramblers Association, the Parish Council and others to provide a safe, off-road stretch of footpath from the village down to Strete Gate thus avoiding the necessity of walking along a particularly narrow stretch of the A379.  It is hoped that work will start on this project in the autumn of 2012 and be completed by the summer of 2013.

Strete is a small parish with a population of approximately 500, although this changes frequently, but we do have a lot of activities going on in the Village.

There is a small community woods area where you can picnic and walk the dog. You are also welcome to walk your dog in our leisure field with its wildlife section and stunning views of Start Bay. The village also has a children’s play park.

The village magazine, Stretewise, gives details of all the activities and other information for the village including the Parish Council minutes
